I am trying to replace the headlight on my 2004 325ci it takes the drs bulb - Answered by a verified BMW Mechanic. We use cookies to give you the best possible experience on our website. I am thinking about replacing the right Xenon headlight in my BMW 325ci with Halogen. I am wondering if this is something I should do. For the xenon headlight, remove the two screws holding the ballast in place, and slide out. Pic of the xenon components removed: 7. You’ll notice on the xenon headlight a bulge where the igniter was screwed into. This is necessary to fit the igniter inside of the headlight housing, where it is safest. (for halogen headlights, the arm is white and is stationary). Here’s a shot of what it looks like: Another showing where to stick the flat (prying up method): Now you have the 2 pieces apart. To take out the igniter, just remove the 2 t20 screws that is holding it on, and disconnect the white connector that is attached to it.

Find how right. I had a similar issue in my old '04 Z4 with xenons. It's a sign that your light will die soon. In my case it turned out to be a control module issue, but usually it's more likely it's the igniter or the ballast. However, I would start with swapping out the offending bulb first, see if that changes anything. If it is the bulb you'd obviously expect the right one to display the issues you're now having with the left one. Get a new bulb and that should fix the issue then.If it's not the bulb, have a look at the actual connector; is it dirty? Damaged? You can also swap components between the headlight units if you want to test for ballast or igniter issues as well to find out which part is giving you a problem. If troubleshooting beyond swapping bulbs is daunting, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a mechanic somewhere and have them look at it.

Having good lighting is important. Also, you might want have a look at. Try changing the bulbs from side to side.

If the problem moves, the bulbs should be the problem. If not, it´s probably the ballast/control unit.I recently changed my right side ballast/control unit as well on my ´05 320iT E46. I had some flicker last year, so I replaced both bulbs then and they worked just fine, but a couple of weeks ago the right side light died. The first thing you need to do is to find out who manufactured your headlights, AL or ZKW so you can make sure to get the right part for your car.Replacing it is not gonna be much fun as it´s mounted on the bottom of the headlights, so they need to come out of the car.

There are good instruction videos for that on youtube.Good luck!.
